Past Events
With the help of our Community Advisory Board’s co-chair, Scott Jennie, Elizabeth made several presentations about the FRANTIC project and updates to three community partners. These presentations were given to partners in Chico, Colusa County, and Sacramento to disseminate project findings and gain community support.

Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco Conference
Our project staff recently attended the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) conference, hosted in Edinburgh, Scotland in March; where they presented a poster on the FRANTIC project. This conference allows researchers, academics, non-profits and others to share their research on nicotine and tobacco.
Our project staff attended the California State Firefighters Association (CSFA) NorCal Training Academy in Woodland back in January. They were given a tour by CSFA’s Executive Director, Marty Creel to gain perspective on fire service culture and conferences. FRANTIC is now an associate member of CSFA.

In August, our media vendor, Mind Meld Studios filmed our educational video in Sacramento, featuring our Community Advisory Board Members; Scott Jennie and Patrick Gallagher. In October, Board members had an exclusive first look at the video developed for recent focus groups during our quarterly meeting. The meeting provided an engaging platform to review these resources and gather input to further refine them for future use.

In late October, our project team attended the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As part of the Occupational Health and Safety session, staff presented a poster on the FRANTIC Project, highlighting our latest research and initiatives. I truly enjoyed the experience and gained insight into the importance of building meaningful relationships with the communities we serve. I’m excited about participating in more educational opportunities and proudly representing the FRANTIC project in the future.

With the support of Community Advisory Board member Rick Smith, Fire Technology Coordinator at the College of the Sequoias, the PIRE team successfully conducted two focus groups in Visalia. These groups, comprised of fire trainees and fire technology instructors or mentors, provided valuable feedback on the acceptability and impact of our developed materials. Their insights are essential in refining our resources to better serve the needs of the fire training community.
